A Sacred Ritual to Honour Your Life Transition
In-person ceremony within 30 minutes of Cambridge
What is a Threshold Ceremony?
Life’s significant transitions deserve to be witnessed and honoured. Whether you’re stepping into motherhood, celebrating your menarche or menopause, navigating loss, ending a relationship, or crossing any other meaningful threshold – you don’t have to do it alone.
A Life Transition Ceremony creates sacred space where you are seen, held, and celebrated by the women who matter most to you. This isn’t a party, it’s a ritual that marks your passage, weaves a web of support around you, and gives you something tangible to carry forward into your new chapter.
What’s Included
1-hour online preparation session
- We’ll meet to explore your vision and intentions for the ceremony
- Together we’ll design a ritual that honours your unique journey and spiritual beliefs
- I’ll guide you on gathering your circle and what to prepare
- You’ll receive suggestions for creating sacred space in your own home or chosen venue
2-hour in-person ceremony
I’ll arrive to help create the sacred space and guide your circle though activities such as:
- Opening ritual – welcoming each woman into sacred space with drumming, smoke cleansing, or blessing
- Honouring ceremony – you’ll be crowned with flowers, seated in a place of honour, and witnessed by your community
- Circle sharing – each woman offers blessings, wisdom, stories, and gifts
- Sacred touch – gentle foot or hand massage, hair braiding, or other nurturing rituals
- Creative ritual – this might include making a communal necklace, creating a vision collage, lighting candles, singing, drumming, or other meaningful activities chosen for your transition
- Web of support – we’ll create a tangible connection between all present, and plan practical support that extends beyond the ceremony
- Closing ritual – drumming, singing, and sacred closure
- Grounding feast – space for sharing food and weaving the sacred back into everyday life
Ceremonial elements I provide:
- Drum and percussion instruments (enough for all involved)
- Space holding, guidance and facilitation throughout
- Ritual structure adapted to your specific transition
- Optional documentation through photos (with your permission)
You provide:
- The venue (your home or chosen space)
- Your gathered circle of 6-12 women
- Altar items, cushions, candles, fairy lights
- Food to share afterward (or ask guests to bring a potluck feast)

Why This Matters
In our culture, we’ve lost the art of marking life’s passages. We rush through transitions alone, unsupported, feeling like we should just “get on with it.” But our ancestors knew: threshold moments need witnesses, ritual, and community.
A Threshold Ceremony gives you:
- Permission to be the centre of attention in a meaningful, non-commercial way
- Deep witnessing from women who truly see you
- A web of support that extends beyond the ceremony day
- Sacred marking of a significant life passage
- Memory and meaning to carry into your new chapter
- Connection to ancient wisdom and contemporary practice
This isn’t about perfection or performance. It’s about being seen and held during one of life’s significant passages.

About Sophie
For over 15 years, I’ve held space for women through life’s most profound transitions. As a former doula and author of Why postnatal recovery matters and The Beat of Your Own Drum, and a practitioner and teacher of many rituals and ceremonies, I understand the transformative power of ritual, rhythm, and being witnessed in community.
I bring warmth, intuition, and deep respect for each woman’s unique journey. Whether your spirituality is earth-based, religious, or simply the knowing that some moments deserve to be sacred – I’ll help you create a ceremony that feels authentic to you.

What Women Say
“I particularly liked the circle energy, the flow, and the drumming, it was all beautiful” Naomi
“Today my doula friends gave me a “mother blessing”, which is a day to share before the baby is born, like a baby shower but more focused on mum, with food to share, poems, songs, made me a necklace with beads and a wish of each one. They gave me a candle and they also got one each also for when I start labour. We also sat in circle, each one told me a few words and we were passing a thread that we all tied up on the wrist and that we will have until my daughter is born. They gave me massages and we laughed a lot! I am super grateful to have them and to have had this day for me” Ceci
“When Sophie held a mother’s blessing for me it was filled with love, emotions, beauty and above all else humble attention on me, the mother to be. I had never experienced anything like it before and the participants be so open and vulnerable to give and receive. It is a unique event that I will always treasure and pass down through word of mouth so more mothers are released on their mothering journey in this beautiful manner ” Azeeta.
“ I was a bit unsure about having mother’s blessing as I was not sure how my friends would react to the ceremony. However, I am very glad I did decide to go ahead. One can tailor the ceremony to the group and your own desires. Ultimately, the biggest value of the ceremony for me was reminding me that I am surrounded by great women and that there is a lot to be gained from sharing women’s wisdom and experience. I feel supported by the network of women going into the next stage of my life which seems a bit scary as there are lots of unknowns. I especially value this feeling as UK is not my mother country and one can therefore feel a bit lost and alone sometimes.” Hana
