Wrapped in Rhythm: Rebozo Wrapping + Drum Healing Ritual

A 2-Day Immersive Training

Background

🥁 For centuries, women have used rhythm and touch to heal each other through life’s transitions. Two ancient practices : the containment of rebozo wrapping and the medicine of drumming, have been used separately across cultures to support women’s bodies, hearts, and nervous systems.

🫂 What I’m offering is something I’ve been developing over the last few years: a ceremony that weaves these two powerful practices together.  Together, they create space for profound transformation.

💝 The ritual I teach combines traditional Closing the Bones style wrapping with therapeutic drumming over the wrapped body. It’s grounded in both ancient wisdom and modern nervous system science.

🌍 This isn’t traditional to one specific culture, it’s an evolution. I’ve taken what I’ve learned from Closing the Bones traditions, combined it with what I know about drumming as medicine for the nervous system, and created something that meets the deep need women have right now: to be both held and soothed into a deep state of relaxation.

What does Held & Heard do?

🧣 The wrapping portion provides physical containment, helps organs settle back into place, releases tension held in the hips and ribs, and signals safety to the nervous system through deep pressure and boundaries.

🥁 The drumming portion works with brainwave entrainment to shift nervous system states, releases what words can’t reach, and moves stuck emotions or trauma through vibration and rhythm rather than talking.

🪐 Together, these practices create a unique healing experience: the body feels completely held and contained while the drum provides a sonic container for whatever needs to move, release, or transform.

✨ While originally developed for postpartum support, this ceremony is profound for any woman navigating life transitions – perimenopause, loss, trauma, career changes, becoming a carer, newly diagnosed neurodivergence, or simply needing deep nervous system regulation.

🤱 Having given variations of this ceremony to dozens of women, I know this: some women need the wrapping more – they need containment, boundaries, to feel held by something outside themselves. Some women need the drumming more – they need to move what’s stuck, to be heard without words. Most women need both.

What does the workshop include?

Learning to Wrap (Closing the Bones) 🧣 History and background of Closing the Bones traditions 💆‍♀️ Practical hands-on training: full body wrapping sequence with 7 rebozos ceremony: how to wrap the body with rebozos to provide containment and closure 👐 Practice in groups of 3 and in pairs: give and receive the full wrapping experience both on the floor and on a massage table

Adding the Drum 🥁 Why drumming works: the science of rhythm, brainwave entrainment, and nervous system regulation
🎵 How to drum over a wrapped body: technique, timing, reading what’s needed 🌀 Creating ceremony: how to hold sacred space for whatever needs to be expressed or released 🤲 Practice in pairs: person wrapped, person drumming.

Throughout both days: ✨ Learning to read the nervous system and respond to what’s present 💭 Understanding when to use wrapping alone, drumming alone, or both together 📝 Extensive handouts covering techniques, theory, and how to offer this work 🎥 Video tutorials for ongoing reference 💬 Plenty of time for questions, reflection, and integration 👥 Small intimate group (maximum 12 students) 🫶 Access to private online community of practitioners.

Who is this course for?

This course is for: 🌸 Birth workers, doulas, and postpartum professionals wanting to expand their offerings 🌸 Bodyworkers and massage therapists interested in ritual and ceremonial approaches 🌸 Women’s circle facilitators and ceremony holders 🌸 Anyone who works with women through life transitions and wants embodied tools for nervous system healing 🌸 Drum facilitators wanting to understand therapeutic applications 🌸 Anyone called to this work who’s willing to practice with care and integrity

A bit of background about me, your course instructor

🎓 I have a PhD in Physiology of Reproduction and spent 25 years as a biology research scientist before reconverting to support women through life transitions.

🤱 I worked as a doula for ten years, trained hundreds of professionals in Closing the Bones bodywork, and have given this ritual to hundreds of women.

🥁 I’ve been practicing drum healing for 15 years, I am a trained drum healing practitioner and teacher, and am the author of The Beat of Your Own Drum as well as Why Postnatal Recovery Matters.

🫂 I developed this combined practice after witnessing how some women needed more than wrapping alone could offer : they needed sound, vibration, and rhythm to access what was stuck. I spent years experimenting with how to weave these practices together safely and powerfully.

💡 I teach a unique blend of scientific evidence, traditional wisdom, and embodied practice. I’m not precious or mystical about this work – I’m grounded, practical, and focused on what actually helps women’s nervous systems regulate and heal.

What makes this workshop special?

🔬 I bridge science and ceremony. I can explain the neuroscience of the nervous system while also honouring the sacred nature of this work.

💝 You’ll experience this work yourself, not just learn it intellectually. You’ll be both wrapped and drummed over, and you’ll practice giving both.

🌊 I share real stories from my clients and students : what works, what doesn’t, what surprised me, what humbled me.

👐 This is hands-on and practice-intensive. By the end of Day 2, you’ll have given and received this full ceremony multiple times.

🫶 Small group size means individual attention and space to process what comes up (because this work will touch you personally, not just professionally).

📚 The handouts are extensive and unique – combining neuroscience of rhythm and nervous system regulation.

🌍 You’ll join a community of practitioners who understand this work and can support your ongoing learning.

What is the investment required?

The 2-day workshop costs £350.

This includes all materials, rebozos and drums to practice with during the course, comprehensive handouts, video tutorial access, and lifetime membership in the practitioner community.

Practicalities of the workshop:

📅 The course runs over two consecutive days, 9h30am – 5:30pm each day

🧘‍♀️ We’ll be practicing wrapping on the floor and on massage tables so wear comfortable clothing

🥁 You don’t need to bring a drum – I’ll provide practice drums. If you have your own and want to bring it, you’re welcome to.

👶 I love babies and children, but they’re too distracting for this intensive workshop. You’re welcome to bring a baby if you can bring another adult to care for them nearby, or if you have a breastfed baby who can stay close with someone else until feeding time.

☕ Tea, coffee, and snacks provided. Bring food to share for lunch.
