The art and science of postpartum wrapping
Do you feel that postpartum belly wrapping is important? does it feel daunting and you aren't sure how to start, what is the best way to do so?
What if I told you that it is simple and can be done with everyday items, and that there isn't a right way to do it, but rather a range of ways and that each mother knows best what suits her?
In this online course you will learn the following:
- A range of methods of wrapping that are simple to do and affordable
- What traditional and modern knowledge say about this practise
- How to use wrapping as a source of postpartum support
- How to tailor what you offer your client’s needs and preferences
All around the world, there is (or used to be) a custom of wrapping the hips and/or the belly for the first few weeks after birth.
It makes sense when you think about it. During pregnancy, the body adapts to accommodate the growing baby: the pelvis tilts and widens, the spine curvature increases, the abdomen stretches to accommodate the growing uterus, which in turn also pushes all the internal abdominal organs up. During the birth the pelvis opens. Then after the birth all of this has to happen in reverse. The uterus has to shrink back to its pre-pregnancy size, and the abdominal organs descend back into place. On a simple physical level, wrapping helps to support stretched and unstable muscles and ligaments during this process. It also provides comfort and warmth.
New mothers are also open physically, emotionally and spiritually, and the wrapping is part of the support that helps on this level too. On an emotional level wrapping brings us back to our bodies and provides a sense of being contained. On a spiritual level it also feels protective.
How to do wrapping during the postpartum
I want to demystify the process and show you that it is simple and doesn’t require expert knowledge, and that you can do for yourself, or teach others easily. I will explain why there isn’t a kind of wrapping that is better than the others. Choosing a method of wrapping is like choosing a pair of jeans: you cannot be prescriptive about what fits each person, and it is a good idea to try before you buy. It needs to fit your lifestyle, and it needs to feel comfortable for your unique body.
Having been wrapping myself for over ten years and teaching my clients and other professionals to do it, I’ve decided to create a new online course to teach this. To celebrate the launch of this course, I am going to share some these techniques with you in this webinar
In this course, I will share history, evidence, stories and tutorials that demonstrate how simple and effective postpartum wrapping is.

- A historical background of postpartum wrapping
- Why wrapping can support postnatal recovery and wellbeing, including what science says
- What options are available to wrap the belly and hips after birth
