Stripes and flowers Rebozo
This rebozos have a beautiful stripes or embroidered flowers pattern.
They are hand made by artisans in the Mexican region of Oaxaca. Abraham and his wife Erika run the business. Erika designs the models of new rebozos, weaving the prototype on a waist loom. The weavers are the couple's brothers and uncles. The sisters-in-law and aunts make the fringe at the end of the rebozo.
All the workers receive benefits including social security, holidays and housing fund. They donate rebozos and baby carriers to a midwifery practise in Oaxaca for mothers of limited resources.
They have made this video that shows the weaving process https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOMfsfFHIOk&feature=youtu.be, and this one about their business https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9F5rhsw1xc&feature=youtu.be
These rebozos are "woven wrap" quality, the fabric is very sturdy, and they are great to use as a baby carrier as well as using it for rebozo techniques during pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. They also makes a beautiful scarf or shawl. They are quite stiff to start with but soften beautifully with wash and use.
These rebozos are 100% cotton, and are 220 cm long (plus a 15 cm fringe at each end) by 65 cm wide
Washing instructions: wash by hand or on a handwash cycle the washing machine to avoid tangling the fringe. I recommend washing before using because the fabric is quite stiff and will soften considerably after the first wash (and soften further the more you use it).
