Cambridge drum circle
Monthly shamanic drum circle on Thursday 10th of October 2024 from 7 to 9pm.
The drum circle is held in an outdoor shelter (Geodome) in a private wood in Abington, near Cambridge. Bring warm clothes/ layers depending on the weather. Come from 6h30 for a prompt 7pm start. We finish at 9pm.
Things you might want to bring with you :
- We will be sitting on the ground, there are mats and cushions on the floor, however if seating on the ground is not comfortable for you, feel free to bring a folding chair or higher cushion, or an extra blanket.
- Weather appropriate layers of clothing (check the weather forecast). The geodome will be heated with a wood burning stove if it's cold.
- Something to place on the communal altar if you wish
- A bottle of water and a warm drink in a flask, to enjoy during the sharing at the end.
- I bring a snack to share at the end (usually a home made gluten free and vegan cake-so everyone present can have some), and if the idea of bringing something to share too appeals to you, this is very much welcome.
Your ticket covers my time preparing for and running the circle, and the costs of hiring the geodome and woods, as well as firewood to keep the geodome warm and cosy. There is a lower price if you have low wages. If you cannot afford it please talk to me. Once you have booked your place, I will email you the details of the location. No previous experience necessary. Please bring a drum if you have one, and you can even attend if you don't (please let me know if you need to borrow a drum so I know how many to bring)
What this circle is for:
- To create a community building and healing monthly group for people who love to connect with the power of the drum.
- A shamanic drumming circle is a powerful way of being together, so we can connect with the spirit of our drums, with ourselves and with each other.
We play the drum intuitively and there is no rhythm to follow. When we drum together the group sound/rhythm tends to take a life of its own. We use ritual, and drums (mostly frame drums but all drums are welcome), and other instruments like rattles. An important part of each meeting are beginning and ending sharing circles where each person will be able to share a few words about how they feel and what their intention for the circle is, and sharing after each round of drumming too. Whilst the modern drum circle is something that developed in the USA in the 60's and 70's, people from all continents have come together to drum in groups since times immemorial. Shamanic drumming is a time-honoured method of healing and helping others. There is power in drumming alone, but that power recombines and multiplies on many simultaneous levels in a group of drummers. The drums draw individual energies together, unifying them into a consolidated force. Looking forward to drumming with you!
